Let’s Do It collective action day kicks off in Pääsküla, almost 1,700 works already submitted
This Saturday, the all-Estonian Let’s Do It 2+2 collective action day kicks off in a biodiverse garden in Pääsküla. Almost 1,600 works have already been submitted as part of the initiative. Over the course of this year’s family-centric collective action day, more than 700 biodiverse flower meadows will be sown, and almost 400 compost bins and hundreds of insect hotels will be built all across Estonia. All the people of Estonia are invited to participate in the 2+2 collective action day so as to get your springtime to-do list checked off in a safe manner and in compliance with the current restrictions. Collective actions can still be submitted at www.teemeara.ee.
Tarmo Tüür, leader of the Let’s Do It 2+2 collective action day, is delighted with the enthusiasm with which people sign up for the 2+2 collective action day. “The sheer number of the works already submitted shows that communal action within the framework of Let’s Do It has really been on people’s minds,” Tüür said. “It is particularly welcome how many biodiverse meadow flower patches will be created all across Estonia, and the number of compost bins that will be built and the fervour to set up insect hotels are equally impressive.”
Let’s Do It 2+2 calls upon all the people of Estonia to gather round with their loved ones and carry out the springtime works that need to get done just now. This year, all the appeals of the Let’s Do It team involve caring – that we care more about the living environment, food, and each other. The emphasis is on everybody’s nature conservation activities and the reduction of food waste, and also on safe co-operation and mental vitamins.
The Let’s Do It website provides recommendations on how to pay attention to and support the biodiversity around us. Nature conservation for everyone can begin even with installing a box of flowers or herbs on the balcony, building an insect hotel, or leaving some patches unmowed around your house so that meadow flowers could blossom and insects could pollinate them.
As part of Green Tiger initiative, we will also be focusing on reducing food waste. The Let’s Do It website provides expert advice on how to give new life to our everyday biowaste and how to compost correctly. Composting enthusiast Anni Raie introduces the ABC of composting, using her own garden as an example. The Let’s Do It website also provides good advice on mental vitamins to pay attention to while working together so as to better support each other in a difficult time like this. The Let’s Do It team is convinced a well-organised meaningful common activity – the Let’s Do It 2+2 collective action day – is one of the best ways to support each other both in families and communities and the society at large.
The organisers of the 1 May collective action day are The Estonian Fund for Nature and Kodukant, the Estonian Village Movement, plus its surrounding network. National Foundation of Civil Society, Active Citizens Fund, Sigrid Rausing Trust, Green Tiger, MTÜ Peaasjad, Apotheka, Bauhof, LHV Youth Bank, Vizeum, Tele2, and others participate as partners.
